The 2025 Eagle Festival in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, was successfully held from March 8 to 9 at the Chinggis Khan Tourist Complex. The festival featured traditional hunting techniques demonstrated by eagle hunters not only from Bayan-Ölgii, Töv, Selenge, and Arkhangai provinces of Mongolia but also from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
The visitors enjoyed a variety of programs, including the riding of the Kazakh traditional swing known as "Altbakan," an exhibition of handmade crafts, and the traditional Kazakh game "Kokpar" (goat skin tug-of-war). In particular, the highlight of the festival, the eagle hunting competition, saw Hamshibain Yelik, an eagle hunter from the Sagasai region of Bayan-Ölgii, take the top prize, attracting attention.
The tradition of eagle hunting, known as “Shuvuu-chlakhui” has been practiced among Central Asian nomads for about 6,000 years and continues to this day. Mongolia officially listed this tradition as part of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Representative List in 2010.
