Training of Trainers Workshop for Teaching with ICH in Schools in the Asia-Pacific Took Place Online
ICHCAP held a training of trainers workshop for “Teaching with ICH in Schools in the Asia and the Pacific” for four days from 27 to 30 October, in cooperation with the UNESCO Bangkok Office and the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding under the auspices of UNESCO (APCEIU).
ICHCAP is implementing a range of programs in the Asia-Pacific countries with the aim to recognize the importance of ICH in formal and non-formal education and create a sustainable environment for ICH transmission in the education sector through various collaboration efforts. Through these collaborative projects for school education on intangible culture, ICHCAP conducted research to analyze domestic primary and secondary school curricula, based on which teachers’ resource kit were established for a curriculum-integrated course utilizing ICH, and an expert workshop was held to facilitate their application in the field. Furthermore, from next year, ICHCAP will share the ways to utilize the resource kit through training workshop for domestic teachers and conduct pilot classes based on lesson plans for a diverse range of subjects.
This online workshop was attended by approximately thirty experts from a total of six countries (Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Thailand, and the Republic of Korea), including Professor Geon Soo Han from the Department of Cultural Anthropology at Gangwon National University in the Republic of Korea. ICHCAP anticipates that this workshop will provide opportunities for students to discover ICH in the course of school education and that the integration of ICH in various school subjects will contribute to creative learning.
Meanwhile, ICHCAP conducted preliminary research on the Asia-Pacific region in cooperation with the UNESCO Bangkok Office, and a preliminary research report is scheduled to be published in the forthcoming year in cooperation with UNESCO Headquarters.
