The 1st Workshop and International Symposium on Traditional Crafts (12 July, Bishkek)
The International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region under the auspices of UNESCO (hereinafter “Centre”) and the National Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic for UNESCO jointly held he 1st Workshop and International Symposium for Promoting the Kyrgyz Republic’s Traditional Crafts and Cultural Tourism Industry on 12 July in Bishkek.
This workshop consisted of two sessions dealing with the current status of traditional crafts in Korea and Kyrgyz and cases of good practices on traditional crafts in the Asia-Pacific region. In this workshop, participants, including Askarova Aynura (Deputy Minister of MCISYP), specialists, and communities, participated and expressed the Kyrgyz government’s interests in the ODA project.
Along with the first workshop, the first PSC (Project Steering Committee) meeting (including the Deputy Minister on Culture of MCISYP), and a meeting between the Kyrgyz and Korean research teams, were hosted. And field research on eleven traditional crafts organizations and two sites for the traditional craft center was conducted.
The Centre has been striving to preserve and promote intangible cultural heritage in the Asia-Pacific region by implementing more practical and specific projects since July 2011. By conducting the ODA project, the Centre will contribute to the economic development of the Kyrgyz Republic by activating Kyrgyz’s cultural tourism industry.
