The UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia, in collaboration with multiple Category 2 Centres under the auspices of UNESCO in the Asia and the Pacific region, is launching a Call for Cases to collect innovative case studies from UNESCO Designated Sites—such as World Heritage properties, Biosphere Reserves, and UNESCO Global Geoparks—as well as cultural and natural heritage sites at national and sub-national levels.

This initiative seeks to identify holistic approaches to heritage management that integrate the safeguarding of both tangible (cultural and/or natural) and intangible cultural heritage, promoting synergies between heritage preservation and sustainable development.

Specifically, contributions are invited to address the following guiding questions: 

• To what extent the site conservation and management takes into account the wealth of intangible cultural heritage and contributes to its safeguarding?
• What are the issues and challenges of conservation and management faced by the tangible and intangible heritage elements?
• How can the inclusion of intangible cultural heritage aspects contribute to sustainable and people-centered heritage management? In other words, in what ways can such a holistic approach help bring the local communities into the conservation and management of heritage sites?
• How can a holistic approach of tangible-intangible synergies contribute to the promotion and education of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage?
