The 15th Genting World Lion Dance Championship was held from 25 to 27 July 2025 at Resorts World Genting in Malaysia. Organized biennially, this competition is regarded as one of the most prestigious lion dance tournaments in the world, serving as an international stage where top lion dance teams from different countries showcase their skills.

This year, a total of 40 teams from six countries and regions, including Malaysia, Singapore, China, Taiwan, Japan, and Myanmar, participated. Nine teams advanced to the finals. The championship and runner-up titles were claimed by Team B and Team A of the Yi Wei Athletic Association from Singapore, while the alumni association of Catholic High School in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, secured third place. In addition, two other Malaysian teams reached the finals, highlighting the host country’s strong presence.

Spencer Lee, Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Public Relations at Resorts World Genting, highlighted the use of diverse props and storytelling elements as a defining feature of this year’s competition. Emphasizing that lion dance is more than a mere cultural performance and demands advanced technical skill and physical endurance on par with competitive sports, he expressed his hope that “one day lion dance will become an international sporting discipline and be included in the Asian Games or even the Olympic Games.”
