Hong Kong will celebrate its inaugural Intangible Cultural Heritage Month this June, with an opening event from May 31st to June 1st, 2025, followed by a month-long showcase of more than one hundred intangible heritage items from Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland. Hong Kong's Leisure and Cultural Services Department said they are organizing more than 80 performances and 60 interactive experience booths under the theme ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage Around Town’.

The opening event will feature performances such as the traditional Hakka unicorn dance from Hang Hau in Sai Kung and the colors parade from Cheung Chau, as well as a demonstration of the Yip Man branch of Wing Chun and a rowing of the dragon-boat on land, part of the traditional wedding ritual in Hoi Luk Fung. There will also be city tours to explore ICH-related sites in different parts of Hong Kong, including Tai Po, Sha Tin and Yau Tsim Mong, as well as the ‘ICH Flavors’ carnival from June 28th to 29th, where visitors are invited to sample food prepared using traditional techniques.

Lawmaker Brave Chan Yung said, “ICH Month will be an opportunity to showcase traditional Chinese culture to the world and introduce Hong Kong and its intangible cultural heritage to the global stage,” adding, ”it will also help attract overseas tourists.”
