The UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia and the World Heritage Institute of Training and Research for the Asia-Pacific Region (WHITRAP Suzhou) have launched the “World Heritage Young Masters Initiative” to support the next generation of cultural heritage preservation leaders. Applications for the 2025 program are open until March 31.
Young people are the future stewards of world heritage and key drivers of its sustainable development. The “World Heritage Young Masters Initiative” aims to enhance the transmission of preservation skills, encourage active engagement in cultural heritage protection, and cultivate creativity and leadership.
This year’s theme is "Conservation, Innovation, and Sustainable Development." Experts under the age of 45 working in the field of cultural heritage conservation in the Asia-Pacific region are eligible to apply. Projects involving the restoration, expansion, reconstruction, and new construction of timber structures conducted at cultural heritage sites within the past 10 years will be the main focus of evaluation, though other projects will also be considered.
The final candidates will be announced on April 21 through an evaluation panel composed of renowned experts, and the selected individuals will be invited to the first "Asia-Pacific World Heritage Young Masters Workshop" held in Suzhou, China.
