One of Asia’s largest street festivals, the Chingay Parade, took place on February 7–8, 2025. The festival celebrates the multiculturalism and traditions of Singapore and Malaysia through artistic performances, symbolizing unity and diversity while preserving the cultural heritage of local communities.
This year’s parade featured a float procession inspired by food and an exhibition of street installations. It also showcased performances by various international artists, selected through a video audition process. Among the performers were Korea’s Beona Nori (Spinning Dish Performance) and Chwita (Traditional Korean Military Band), Kazakhstan’s National Dance Ensemble, and Malaysia’s parade performers. The fusion of traditional and contemporary arts reflected the creativity of local communities and highlighted the rich cultural identities of Singapore and Malaysia.
In a landmark announcement, Singapore and Malaysia officially revealed their joint efforts to nominate the Chingay Parade for inclusion on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This initiative marks a significant step toward gaining global recognition and ensuring the preservation of their shared cultural heritage.
