The Asia-Pacific Research Forum for Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Protection, established by the International Research Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region (IRCI), held its first international conference from February 13 to 15, 2025, at the National Museum of Ethnology in Osaka, Japan. The event was co-hosted by the museum and supported by the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan.

Under the theme "New Frontiers in Research for ICH Protection," the conference explored new approaches to ICH research and protection in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. IRCI highlighted the progress made over the past 20 years since the adoption of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Discussions covered a wide range of topics, including economic development, emergencies, gender, and migration. The event also aligned with UNESCO’s initiatives and priorities for cultural heritage protection.

The conference provided a unique platform for researchers studying ICH to come together, exchange perspectives, and engage in critical yet constructive discussions on the future of ICH research and protection.
