On January 5, 2025, an international academic conference titled "Protection and Promotion of Intangible Cultural Heritage and Bình Định Traditional Martial Arts" took place in Bình Định Province, Vietnam. The primary goal of this conference was to prepare scientific documentation for the inclusion of Bình Định Traditional Martial Arts in UNESCO`s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, as well as to collect expert opinions and advice.
Binh Dinh Traditional Martial Arts was recognized as Vietnam`s National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2012, and efforts are now focused on seeking to be listed on UNESCO`s World Heritage List to promote sustainable development and international recognition.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong highlighted that traditional Vietnamese martial arts, including Binh Dinh traditional martial arts, represent the Vietnamese martial spirit and self-reliance. He also emphasized that it is an original cultural heritage that has been passed down from generation to generation. Additionally, he noted that the conference served as a platform for international cooperation and discussions on the contemporary relevance and preservation strategies for traditional martial arts.
The conference served as an academic forum where domestic and international experts and researchers discussed scholarly issues related to traditional martial arts. It provided an opportunity to reaffirm the historical, cultural, and philosophical significance of Binh Dinh traditional martial arts. Through this event, Binh Dinh and Vietnam aim to enhance their international reputation in heritage preservation and promotion.
