TRILOGIA Printmaking Festival, held from 7 to 20 December, celebrates the diversity of practices and knowledge in printmaking through a series of exhibitions, symposiums and collaborations.
Established in Yogyakarta since 2013, the organisers of the festival, Krack! is a printmaking collective contributing to the development of printmaking in Indonesia.
`In its history, there have been numerous terms used to refer to printmaking art: print art, graphic art, printmaking. For us, based on the research conducted by Krack! to explore the history of printmaking in Indonesia, the term `printmaking art` was chosen because it represents a series of processes involving drawing, printing and duplicating images.` - Sukma Smita, Festival Director
As TRILOGIA, this first edition of the festival explores `Character` as its theme, reflecting and re-examining the evolution and nature of printmaking thought and practice as a mirror of print culture and everyday society.
This year the Festival offers an exhibition, showcasing a range of artworks, archives and everyday objects related to printmaking and a hybrid symposium "The Character of Printmaking in Indonesia", serving as a space for exchanges and discussions on printmaking and its intersections with history, material art and the contemporary art field.
