A three-day workshop in Almaty prepared Central Asian countries for a new cycle of periodic reporting on Intangible Cultural Heritage. This initiative, part of the "Silk Road Heritage Corridors in Central Asia" project funded by the European Union, was organized by UNESCO's Almaty Regional Office. It aimed to enhance heritage preservation under the UNESCO 2003 Convention.

The training brought together participants from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. They focused on improving the participants' ability to prepare comprehensive and accurate reports on the status and safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage in their respective countries.

Periodic reporting is crucial as it allows countries to assess and reflect on their efforts to preserve cultural heritage, identify challenges, and share best practices. It also helps UNESCO monitor the implementation of the 2003 Convention and provides a platform for international cooperation and support.

The workshop emphasized the importance of community involvement in identifying and safeguarding intangible cultural heritage. Participants were trained on methodologies for effective data collection and reporting, ensuring that the reports are not only thorough but also reflective of the communities' perspectives.

By enhancing the reporting skills of these nations, the workshop aims to strengthen the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage across Central Asia, contributing to the broader goals of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue.
