Experts, heritage researchers, and cultural practitioners from across Central Asia, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as Mongolia and China, gathered in Tashkent to exchange ICH knowledge, discuss recent research and practices, and address key challenges in this sub-region. There was opportunity to reinforce sub-regional networks for cooperative research and future initiatives in safeguarding ICH. Additionally, discussions on the synergies between tangible and intangible cultural heritage promoted further research supporting the holistic safeguarding of diverse forms of community heritage.
The programme of the meeting included country presentations on the state of ICH research in Central Asia, where experts were sharing recent research findings, highlighting challenges, and exploring opportunities for collaboration. Discussions also addressed pressing issues related to the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage and strengthened synergies across the region.

The meeting provided space to reflect on good practices and lessons learned with the aim of fostering a stronger sub-regional network of researchers and practitioners committed to safeguarding cultural heritage.
This initiative represented an important step towards a more coordinated regional approach to cultural heritage safeguarding. By fostering dialogue among researchers, government representatives, and international partners, the meeting contributed to advancing the effective implementation of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
