UNESCO ICHCAP and Seoul National University of Education Sign MOU to Promote Intangible Cultural Heritage in School Education

On Monday, May 12, the International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region under the auspices of UNESCO (ICHCAP, Acting Director-General Ms. Gyuri Park) and Seoul National University of Education (President Dr. Shinho Jang) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote cooperation in the integration of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) into school education.
This agreement aims to enhance educational cooperation between the two institutions in order to convey the value and importance of ICH to future generations. It was established to systematically incorporate ICH into teacher training programs and elementary school education.
Under the MOU, both institutions will jointly carry out phased cooperation projects, including:
• academic exchanges such as joint research and seminars in the field of ICH education,
• teacher training programs, operation of teacher research groups, and pilot classes, etc.
During the signing ceremony, the heads of both institutions emphasized that intangible cultural heritage is a valuable cultural asset that embodies the identity and lives of communities. It is important to foster understanding and respect for ICH among future generations through practical implementation in education.
Both institutions also expressed hope that the MOU will serve as a model for successful collaboration between education and culture. Moving forward, the two institutions plan to build a practical and sustainable foundation for educational cooperation on ICH.
